If you need a liner, could our Baffle Liner help you?
Quad bags or Baffle bags are a great way to stop ‘bellying’ on a bulk bag. When a standard style bag is filled it often bulges around the middle, most common with powders and flowing products. This can cause issues with storage and space when being transported.
A Quad bag, sometimes called a Baffle bag, can reduce this bulging, allowing bags to be stored or transported next to each other using less space. For example, when bulk bags are loaded into containers and there is a restriction on space. The bulging on the bag can prove difficult to load and sometimes will not allow maximum capacity in the space. The same can be said when bags are on a racking system where the storage ‘slots’ are a standard size, and a filled bulk bag can be too wide.
In basic terms (there is a bit of science behind it), a Quad bag has 4 pieces of fabric sewn internally going across the side seams. This fabric has holes punched out to allow the product to flow into all the corners. The baffles (which are the internal fabric pieces) can be heat sealed to enable use with food grade products and can be sift proof on the stitching for the finer powders.
However, there are some downfalls with Quad bags. They are not suitable for products that do not flow well – if the product does not fill into the corners, the bag will become unstable. The other main issue is, if an inner liner is needed in the bag to protect the product, the internal baffles would prevent it being used.
To overcome this problem, a solution can be a multi-layered bag. This is where the liner is sandwiched between the outer bag and a lightweight fabric inner bag with baffles and is sewn around the top to secure the layers. This is a heavy bag that is not the easiest to use and is costly.
Another alternative is to have a Quad liner placed in the bag. This works the same way as the Quad bag, but the liner has the inner baffles welded to the outer liner (see below). This is an excellent alternative for food grade and very fine products. It is no more difficult to use than a standard liner and does the same job as a Quad bag.
As you would expect, we are able to offer both these styles of bags from our partner manufacturer, Flexituff.
