Safety Factors for Bulk Bags

Judi Kelly • Jun 18, 2019

What does SF 5:1 and SF 6:1 mean?

It can be confusing knowing how many things you can use a bulk bag, we get asked this from time to time so we thought we would explain! A bag is rated with a safety factor (SF) which determines how many times it can be used. This in itself can be mis-understood as the terminology is not particularly good in a lot of publications.

If a bag has a SF 5:1 it is a single use bag. This means that a bag can be filled and emptied only once but can be lifted and moved as many times as it is safe to do so - ie no damage to the web loops or the bag.

If a bag has a SF 6:1 it is a mult- trip bag. This means that a bag can be filled and emptied as many times as it is safe to do so - again no damage to the web loops or the bag itself.

I hope this clarifies the single and multi trip meanings but if you would like more information please let us know and we will be happy to discuss your specific enquiries and provide additional information.
