More on safe lifting and transporting of FIBCsMore on safe lifting and transporting of FIBCs

Other lifting methods should only be used if the manufacturer’s instructions, as shown on the label, indicate that it is safe to do so.

1. Four lifting loops attached to a single hook
2. Two lifting loops attached to a single hook, two by two

For single point FIBCs, one hook is permissible whether hooked directly to the pre- formed loop or to an intermediate collar. In this case the correct sized hook is important and must be checked.

Do not lift an FIBC using steel wires, fibre ropes, belt slings or similar items through one or more lifting loops. Using these materials can cause friction when being hoisted, resulting in melting the loops or causing the loops to snap.
Several FIBCs may be lifted together if safe and vertical lifting at the loops is provided.

Any pendular motion or sideways pulling of the FIBC during lifting should be avoided. This will put added strain on the bag and can cause the FIBC to fail.
